I asked a  slightly bemused Simon to notate the rest of the game for me and began  playing at blitz speed. White continued to take his time and barely glanced at  his clock.} 26. Qg3 Qc6 27. c4 Rb6? {Blundering the exchange, and probably  making Simon feel even more like I was wasting his time. I had 3 minutes  left, Ray 20. Qd3 Ra7 {For the last  20 minutes, my eyes had been fixed on the clock and Ray's fixed on the  board. At this point, I had 1:15 left and he had 0:34. I felt the job was  done; he couldn't win this in 34 seconds, not with how slowly he'd been  playing. Just waiting for his clock to run out felt a bit too cheeky, so I  said "I feel kind of bad for asking, but... do you want a draw?" He seemed  a little surprised, but smirked and said "No" dismissively, and without  checking the clock. There were titters from the spectators (we were the  only pair still playing), but I wasn't sure whether they'd seen the clock  and were laughing that he hadn't bothered to check it, or hadn't and were  laughing that I was so bold to offer a draw a rook down.} 35.
