RIP – Ann Willan

Last night some news reached us regarding Ann Willan, sadly she passed away on Tuesday (14th January).

Ann was one of the founding members of the club, she never took the game too seriously often pausing to ask her Queen what she thought of the position.

However, she did have many high points in her chess career including beating Steve in a Players Cup match using the Légal’s chess trap (in which you sacrifice the Queen for an early checkmate) and playing the occasional game for the second team.

She will probably be best remembered for her conversions with her pieces and great nuggets of wisdom.

More will be written about her in the coming days and weeks and we are looking for some ideas to award an Ann Willan Memorial Trophy, any ideas are welcome.

All our thoughts go out to her family.
