Cumnor Chess Club meets every Thursday night between 7pm and 9pm at Cumnor Old School (behind the Post Office), High Street, Cumnor, Oxford, OX2 9PE.
If you enjoy playing chess, why not come along?
There is free parking around the back, and we’re open all year around, apart from the month of August and the last two weeks in December.
After an evening’s game you’ll quite often find some of us discussing our tactics over a pint in the nearby Vine Inn or Bear and Ragged Staff pubs. We play Blitz Cumnor Rules with winner stays on, or take a look at our recent games.
Club Fees
Membership of the club runs until January of the next year. So, you pay less if you join in – say – October than if you join in March. Make sense?
Of course, you have to pay again the following January. Any questions, Steve is your man…

Directions for non-local visitors from the A34
Cumnor Old School, High Street, Cumnor, Oxford, OX2 9PE
(Behind Cumnor Post Office)
You will most probably either come down the A34 to Oxford from the M40, or from the North Bound ring road, or up the A34 from the M4, or the South Bound ring road. Either way leave the A34 at the Botley Interchange.
Take the A420 to Swindon/Bristol, (not to Oxford). Leave the A420 at the second exit onto the B4017 to Cumnor.
At the T junction turn RIGHT. At the next T junction turn RIGHT again. Then take the first LEFT, you are now in Cumnor.
Continue driving down this residential road, (It’s Abingdon Road, but it’s not clearly marked). After about 600 yds you will pass the VINE PUB on your right hand side, at the same time the road becomes one way for about 200 yds.
Once the road becomes two-way again, (High Street), after 50yds you will see a building on your left hand side attached to the Post Office. This is Cumnor Old School.
Turn left into the drive way and park at the rear of the building.
If you hit the mini roundabout, at Appleton Road, you’ve gone too far by about 50 yards.
Access the building from the rear, where there is ample car parking.
Wheel-chair access and disabled toilets. Refreshments provided.
